Eugene E. Wilson was born on August 21, 1887, in Dayton, Washington, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Tallmadge Wilson. His father was a prominent banker in the Tacoma, Washington, area and was appointed receiver for troubled banks in Helena, Montana, from 1897 to 1902. During that time, young Eugene attended schools in Helena. In 1908 he graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy and then married Genevieve Speer in 1911.
